Halloween decorating for the Novice and Professionals alike

It’s crazy how seasons go, right? Kids are back in school so that makes it fall, right? And with fall comes Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas! Now I’m normally the person that always says I will decorate for Halloween and then it’s October 25th so hey why put all that effort into decorating for just a few days right? Not this year! Remember I live in a one- bedroom apartment, so I won’t be decorating the apartment but I will be making cookies!

Check out this recipe for Orange Spice Cookies found in our catalog!

Orange Spice Cookies

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 1⁄2 cups sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 Tablespoons corn syrup
  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons ginger
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 Tablespoon orange zest

Cream butter, gradually adding sugar, beating until light & fluffy. Add egg & syrup, beating well.

Combine & add flour, baking soda & spices.

Stir in orange zest.

Add CK Red Label Powder color in Orange (40-5085) to desired shade.

Shape into rolls, each 1″ in diameter.
Chill overnight in waxed paper.

Cut into 1⁄8″ slices.

Place on ungreased baking sheets. Bake 5-6 minutes at 400 ̊F.

Don’t forget to cut into your favorite Halloween shapes! Check out all our Halloween cookie cutters.

Once you have your cookies on your cooling rake and they are cooled COMPLETELY you’re ready to decorate!

One of the easiest (fun) ways to decorate are with our Halloween Candy Writers (they’re a hit! Don’t forget to order now! #77-3003)  Comes with 4 colors- orange, black, green and orchid.

Really simple to use- place the tubes in hot (NOT boiling) water. DO NOT OVERHEAT (they won’t work very well, let alone taste good). Turn and knead while heating to assure its all melted. Cut off the end of the tube and you’re in business!

More of an icing fan than chocolate? Don’t worry we have you covered on for that as well. Our royal icing (#77-101) is great for decorating cookies. One pound of this will cover approximately 25-30 three inch cookies. Plus you can always put in some CK Red label Gel color or TruColor™ gel paste powders to add some color! Maybe TruColor™ Orange (39-052) or CKs  orange (40-1085) the choice is yours. But of course, if you’re looking for black icing we already have you covered with our black royal icing (77-101K).

Once your icing hardens you can decorate with some different color write on gels or even some sugar eyeballs (#64-42406).  Check out all of our other Halloween Decorations here. These would be really fun for kids to be able to decorate how they want for Halloween! Quick, easy, and scrumptious.
