Like many online retailers and wholesalers, Sweet Themes started out small. In 2006, Jill Buckingham and her husband Paul opened a small gift store and gift hamper business, gifts2remember, in Australia. Only a few years later, they stumbled across Sweet Themes, an online party store that was for sale. They figured it would be the perfect combination with their gift store.
Years flew by and before she knew it, Jill and her husband had sold the gift store and were concentrating on the wholesale side of Sweet Themes. Afterall, their website traffic was tripling nearly every month.
August 2011 was a huge turning point for Sweet Themes, as they exhibited at the Melbourne Home and Giving Fair for the first time. Before exhibiting at the show, Sweet Themes was a wholesaler to only a dozen stores. Less than a year later more than 100 stores in Australia were stocking their shelves with cookie cutters, chocolate molds, cake pans, and other decorating products from Sweet Themes.
“The best thing about being in this business now is having no retail store front ourselves,” Jill said. “After being tied to strict, long hours for years in the retail store, we are now more flexible being online and wholesaling… We love the freedom and flexibility Sweet Themes now offers us.”
Jill has won multiple awards for customer service over the years and loves to help customers find what they’re looking for.
“Also, we pride ourselves on a fast turnaround of dispatching orders,” Jill said.
Another perk is the emails and texts Jill receives from satisfied customers. Sweet Themes is often told that they “saved the party” with their amazing website, array of goodies and fast delivery of party products.
“It’s even better when the customers send in photos of their finished products. It gives you that warm fuzzy feeling you get when you’ve genuinely helped someone.”
Like any business, Sweet Themes has challenges. Jill said one of the toughest things right now is judging how much stock to order when they are growing at such a rapid rate. Still, in today’s economy, she isn’t complaining about the spike in business.
Sweet Themes has been a CK Products customer for more than three years. Jill loves CK Sixlets right now and their “gorgeous pearlized colors.”
“They just look so majestic sitting on top of cupcakes, and a bonus is they are filled with chocolate!” she said.
Sweet Themes also carries CK Products sprinkles, shimmer gels, candy writers, candy beads, cake pans, chocolate molds, glitter flakes and more. They also carry their own range of cupcake cases, currently stocking eight designs and releasing four new designs in 2013.
Jill said Sweet Themes offers Australia’s largest selection of stainless steel cookie cutters- boasting more than 220 shapes and growing. They continue to add new products month after month and are even looking for a larger warehouse.
“Sweet Themes is steadily moving from strength to strength,” Jill said.
