Baking over the years

By Natalie, Marketing Assistant

Flour was everywhere: on the table, on the floor, on grandma, and most definitely all over me. I was around five years old when I first helped grandma make a pie. I was amazed at her ability to bake without using a recipe card. She had done it so often that she had it memorized. All sorts of pie recipes – apple, blueberry, strawberry, peach, and her favorite, rhubarb – were ingrained in her memory from decades of baking.

I remember what I was most excited about learning: how to pinch the pie crust. Grandma’s old hands worked so quickly around the homemade crust… pinching and turning, pinching and turning. She slowed down to show me how to do it, and I ever so carefully used my tiny fingers to create the crinkled look around the edge of the pie.

There is no greater way for a grandmother and granddaughter to bond than in the kitchen. Whether it was pies, cookies, bread, cakes, or my grandma’s famous fried mush, our best moments together were spent baking.

As an adult, I love to be in the kitchen. I experiment with spices and herbs, vegetables and meats, sauces and salads. Sure I can whip up a good sugar cookie, but my baking skills pretty much stopped there. That is, until I started working at CK Products.

When you spend your days surrounded by cake mix, frosting, sprinkles, chocolate and other delicious sweets, you can’t help but want to learn how to use everything. While I have only been here as a marketing assistant for three months, I’ve learned a lot. My grandmother may have made delicious cakes when I was growing up, but they were nowhere as near as beautiful and detailed as the creations we see today in bakeries around the globe.

Below are some of my first creations. They are nothing extraordinary, but I have learned this: people love beautiful baked goods. Give someone a cupcake and it will instantly brighten his or her day!

Some of the edible decorations I used:
Pastel Edible Confetti
Diamonds Edible Confetti
Lime Green Pearl Gourmet Gumball
Pink Pearl Gourmet Gumball
Pearl White Gourmet Gumball
Silver Stars Edible Glitter Shapes
Lime Green Sanding Sugar

Have you made a beautiful cupcake using anything CK Products? Share it with us! Email me at . I would love to see what you’ve made!
